Our Partnerships with Maryvale

Maryvale Institute specialises in part-time distance learning courses in Theology, Philosopy, Religious Education, Catechesis and Evangelisation.  Distance learning allows students to study in their own locality with tutor support.  Students are supported by specialist course materials carefully tailored to their needs.

In the Archdiocese we support some of these courses by hosting meetings where students can gather together on a regular basis, with a facilitator, to share experiences and input.

Adult Study in the Catechism

We currently have a small group of people who have been working on this six- module course. This is distance-learning based, with regular support meetings being held here in the Curial Offices.

Evangelisation and Ministry for the Sick

The two modules of this pathway are of great value for Eucharistic ministers, lay chaplains in hospitals and anyone involved in ministry to the sick. The pathway looks at a wide range of issues including the meaning of suffering, sickness and death.  it also seeks to provide a solid background to those wishing to reflect upon their existing ministry to the sick or who are contemplating becoming involved in it.

The meaning of suffering and death is examined with reference to Scripture and recent Papal documents.  Students are encouraged to prepare prayerfully and carefully for visits and to be aware of their need for support in an often stressful setting.  The effect of our own experience of death and sickness is explored.

The Religious Education Department is currently working towards providing this facilitated course in the Archdiocese.  Further information about when and how to apply will be published as soon as it becomes available.
