Monsignor Peter Smith

With great sorrow we announce the death after a long illness of Mgr Peter Smith, former chancellor of the Archdiocese and PP of St Paul’s Whiteinch.

Funeral arrangements as follows: The reception and vigil will take place at St Paul's Whiteinch on Friday October 22 at 7pm. Mgr Peter's Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday October 23 at 12 noon in St Paul's and he will be later laid to rest at St Peter's Cemetery, Dalbetth.

Mgr Peter who was 62, was a much loved priest well known and respected for his service across the Church in Scotland. He was a fine Canon lawyer and devoted priest. He served Cardinal Winning and Archbishop Conti as Chancellor, sreved the Holy See's Mission to the United Nations in New York, worked tirelessly in the organisation of the Papal visit of Pope Benedict, while remaining a friendly and compassionate priest, always anxious to serve God and His Church.

He has borne the burden of serious illness heroically for many years and was a great example of faith and perseverance to all who knew him
