The Scriptures tell us, “This is the favourable time, this is the day of salvation.”
And, in response, we will humbly accept Ashes on our forehead as a sign of our readiness to take the path of penance and conversion, and to engage in the Lenten disciplines of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
For me, Lent is a season that gets into my soul.
It’s like Jesus is looking me in the eye, taking me by the hand and beckoning me forward into the desert with him to hear the word of God more clearly, to strip myself of unnecessary baggage and face down the devil and the lure of sin.
So, I encourage you, my dear friends, to embrace this holy season, these 40 days of Lent, in preparation for the saving mysteries of the death and resurrection of Jesus.
